Goodwill Outlet Experience
Been there twice (the Portland area), pretty late in the afternoon so I am not sure how it is as it opens. From what I have seen, it is mostly teens going for clothes. it is hilarious to see, that they form the outline of the bin before it’s even there, and when the employees give them the go, they start going crazy, sometimes playing tug of war with each other and purchasing carts full of clothes. but hey I am fine with that because it leaves the other stuff for me.
I have seen people digging like lunatics and throwing/ breaking stuff without a care in the world. There was a bag of literal rotting trash in one of the bins that smells like absolute ass. Friends arguing loudly who found( why are you sharing a cart then?).
Some guys asked me if he could use my cart when I was done checking out. I said yes so I was taking stuff out to carry to my car, and he put the stuff in my cart on the floor and then walked away with the cart….. this is all from two days and not even at opening hours, I cannot imagine.
I am not a fan of some weirdos there, the way it makes people act and how gross and dirty it is but I do enjoy finding the treasure people miss or don’t want to deal with. I found the drums for an Xbox One Rockband and next to it was one of the legs. It was so fun to try to hunt the other pieces. The only reason I could think people left this $200-$300 item is because it was scattered and too big to handle shipping-wise. It was considered “electronics” so it came out to I think $5 to $6 for the whole set and I find it funny how I paid four times that amount for shoes and some car mats.
Overall, I had to rate it at 7/10, I will go once in a while but for the most part, I will stick to thrift stores.
